Not least because of COVID-19, the current supply shortages, and the continuously rising demand for Just-in-Time intralogistics, the digitalization and automation of all logistical processes is being driven forward with great force.

What defines the problem as a key success factor?
It is irrelevant whether it is a mass producer, a manufacturer of customized solutions, or, for example, a service warehouse for event-driven power grid supply. Length, width, height, weight, packaging sizes, shelf life, batch numbers, hazardous material labels, and much more are often not perfectly represented and usable in a qualitative data analysis of ERP systems in real practice.
The problem escalates with items that are needed once or very rarely. No one could have imagined how large and heavy the delivery actually is. And now, the selection of handling equipment, transport process, and storage location (not to mention the special requirements...) are again managed manually by the 'expert for our problem cases' on site?
Organizational process planning, personnel deployment planning, layout design of the warehouse, necessary adjustments, and planning of workspaces, etc., within the warehouse itself, depend on a lot of product information of the items being managed.
Additionally, the systemic booking processes in the ERP system, the creation of legally and content-wise error-free shipping documents, labels, barcodes, freight bills, customs declarations, shipping orders for delivering items, and more also hinge on the question of digital master data quality. Missing and/or incorrect information requires daily human intervention to resolve these issues.
How is high-quality master data created?
